Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS)
Wharton Research Data Services, or WRDS, is an Internet-based business data research service from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Developed in 1993 to support faculty research at Wharton, the service has since evolved to include over 175 institutions, including the University of Amsterdam. WRDS provides access to datasets as COMPUSTAT, CRSP, Dow Jones, EVENTUS and Bureau van Dijk.
WRDS can be found at the databases in the Digital Library. Direct access within the UvA domain or through VPN however is no longer possible. WRDS is available only for UvA-students and staff who have registered for a personal WRDS account at the WRDS website, which you can access by clicking on the link below. After registration you can enter WRDS on any internetcomputer worldwide. At the WRDS website click 'Register for a WRDS Account'. Enter a UvA e-mail address and a self-created user name. Before you can start using WRDS your account request has to be approved by the local WRDS administrator. The approval process may take several hours to several days. Once your request has been approved, you will receive an e-mail message with instructions to set your password. More information on WRDS can be found using the first link below. Questions can be directed to Bjorn Witlox at the Pierson Révész Library.
