As a student or staff member at the UvA, you can access our databases and ejournals from your home PC. For more information, see below.

If you are not a UvA student or staff member, full access from home is not possible. You will encounter "no entrance" signs or login screens. This is because of licensing agreements between the Library and publishers of electronic information. Non-UvA visitors may consult our resources on public computers in the library locations only.

UvA students and staff

  • Users of  UvAdsl as internet connection are automatically connected to the UvA domain. They have full access to all library resources.
  • If you use a commercial internet provider, you need UvAvpn to have access to the UvA domain.
UvAvpn is a service of the Informatiseringscentrum (Information Technology Centre)

Refer to

UvAvpn

Activating UvAvpn software

Please note: each time you want to use our electronic resources you must first activate VPN as follows:

  • Start button ---> Programmes ---> Cisco VPN Client ----> VPN client.
  • Select the VPN connection with UvA and click connect
  • Enter your UvAnetID

As soon as a yellow padlock symbol shows at the bottom right of your screen your UvAvpn connection is activated.

Open your browser. You now have full access to all of our ejournals and databases.

Please note: for UvA databases marked with a lemon-shaped icon  a so called Citrix plugin (software) has to be installed. A manual in Dutch is available.

Problems?

Problems with the vpn service may be reported to the Servicedesk of the Informatiseringscentrum (the ICT department of the UvA): servicedesk-ic@uva.nl.
