RRRIPP!! Paper Fashion

Brief hype with a long tail

This exhibition catalogue addresses the little-known phenomenon of paper fashion and paper as a practical, economic, aesthetic substitute for textiles. Although there has been no question of paper fashion as such since it was briefly hyped the late 1960s, countless important fashion houses and designers have  experimented with paper or with materials that look like paper.

Contemporary designers

Paper still speaks to the imagination as an alternative material for clothing, and diverse contemporary designers continue to seek ways of incorporating materials that resemble paper in their collections. The most remarkable of these creations are brought together by RRRIPP!!Paper Fashion, including designs by John Galliano, Issey Miyake, A.F. Vandevorst, Hussein Chalayan, Kosuke Tsumura, Walter Van Beirendonck, Ann Demeulemeester and many more.

The exhibition is held at MoMu Antwerp from 06/03/2009 until 16/08/2009
