There is hardly any parking space in the libraries’ vicinity. The building can be reached easily however by public transport. Trams 2, 4, 5, 9, 16, 20, 24 and 25 from Amsterdam Central Station stop at either Spui or Muntplein.

Library services
Study facilities
The Singel branch houses approximately 300 seats. On the second floor the general reading room has 70, the third floor houses two large study rooms with another 200 seats. Stewards see to it that house rules are adhered to.
The study rooms are closed on official Christian holidays and on Sundays during the summer holiday season.
Lockers
When a department with books on open stacks is visited, coats and bags will have to be locked away. Free lockers are available: the Euro needed for closing it will be returned upon opening it. The wardrobe is in the basement, left from the main entrance.
Photo copies
The copy machines in the wardrobe, Reference centre and the hall next to the general reading room work on chip cards. Prepaid chip cards can be bought from the circulation desks in the Reference centre. To revaluate chip cards use the machine in the wardrobe.
Circulation
The main purpose of our collection is scientific education and research. Any one wanting to borrow or consult material has to have a valid UBA borrowers card.
You cannot borrow:
- periodicals (newspapers and journals)
- books over 100 years old
- reference works
- material belonging to study rooms or departments
Inter Library Loan (ILL)
Opening an ILL- account enables you to request books and articles from all UvA collections and other Dutch libraries. Articles can often be sent to you via E-mail.
