New Special Collections Library opened by Queen Beatrix

On Friday 11 May the Queen of the Netherlands opened the new library for the Special Collections of the Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA) at Oude Turfmarkt, Amsterdam. The library contains an ultramodern depot for ten kilometres of material, two beautiful rooms for research, three period rooms, a spacious exhibition room and a museum café.

Special Collections closed on 11 May

On the 11th of May the Special Collections will be closed due to the official opening.

The University Library Special Collections are to be moved.

The Special Collections will join with the Allard Pierson Museum on Oude Turfmarkt to form a gateway to the Universiteit van Amsterdam cultural heritage.

Taschen/Librero is reprinting famous seventeenth-century atlas of the universe from the Special Collections of the Universiteit van Amsterdam

The German publishing company Taschen is now publishing a richly illustrated version of this atlas in a modern edition with an introduction by astronomer Rob van Gent. For this reprint, use has been made of the hand-coloured example from the Special Collections of the University Library in Amsterdam.

The Special Collections at Oude Turfmarkt

New location for Special Collections. At Oude Turfmarkt they are hard at work to rebuild two historic houses into one beautiful new location for the Special Collections of the Universiteit van Amsterdam.

Generous gift to University Library: a Dutch Ortelius atlas (1584)

The Association of Friends of the University Library of Amsterdam has donated an unknown Ortelius Atlas (1584) to the library.

New: Image database Maps & Atlases

428 highlights of the map and atlas collection at the University Library Amsterdam can now be viewed online.
