The De la Fontaine Reading Room is the central reading and research room of the Special Collections. Material relevant to the history of the book can be consulted here, as well as the early printed books, the manuscripts, letters and archives.

Here are also held on open access the reference libraries relating to the early printed books and modern special editions, the manuscripts, letters and archives.

Special Collections has various reading rooms for specialized research. There are separate reading rooms for the map collection, the church history collections, the collections of the  Royal Society of the Dutch Book Trade (KVB) and the Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana.

Information regarding collections, reproductions, and photographes as well as registrations can be obtained at the reference desk in the main reading room.
