Students from other universities are welcome to study at the Library provided they register as external borrowers. To do so, go to the webpage on Requesting Library Card. Students of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences have access with their AUAS pass.
Please note: during exam periods, only UvA students have access to the Library. See the webpage on Access Policy.
Usually requested materials are ready for you at the desired location within one to two working days. During holidays and weekends there is no delivery of materials. When the material is ready for you, you will receive a pick-up notification by email.
Some of our material can only be consulted on location. Sometimes there are other reasons why material is (temporarily) not available. Read more about non-requestable materials.
UvA students and staff can access digital collections by logging in to CataloguePlus (top right). For some databases it may be necessary to turn on VPN first.
External borrowers who want to consult the digital collection can use a collection PC at the University Library Singel. These PCs can be found on the first floor, next to the information desk.
It is possible to request materials from other libraries via interlibrary loan (ILL). For borrowing materials from the AUAS, please go to CataloguePlus.
External borrowers can request printed materials via CataloguePlus and pick them up at library location University Library Singel. As an external borrower, you can consult the digital collection via the collection PCs on the first floor of the UB Singel (next to the information desk). You can also use the open collections at all library locations, and consult heritage materials and special collections at the Allard Pierson research room.
In addition, you are welcome to study or work in the library, except during examination periods. For more information, go to the access policy page.
By external borrowers we mean anyone who is registered with the Library as a borrower, but is not connected to the UvA or AUAS.
